Case Study: NCUP achieves real-time traffic forecasting with PTV Optima from PTV Group

PTV Optima creates real-time dynamic traffic model for Slovenia

NCUP, Slovenia’s National Traffic Management Center, needed a way to improve road safety, reduce congestion, lower transport costs, and provide real-time traffic information for better traffic management across the country. To meet these goals, NCUP selected PTV Group and its PTV Optima solution, combining an offline PTV Visum model with live data inputs.

PTV Group implemented PTV Optima to forecast traffic conditions in real time for about 500,000 road segments across Slovenia, updating every five minutes and predicting up to one hour ahead. The system uses floating car data and detector inputs to calculate around 100 KPIs, helping operators monitor traffic, compare scenarios, and make proactive decisions; the solution was delivered in 2019 and has been operating since, with public traffic updates now available online.
