Case Study: Transport for Wales improves public transport planning with PTV Visum

Network-wide models help Wales improve public transport across all modes

Transport for Wales (TfW) is the government authority responsible for public transport in Wales, and it needed accurate network-wide models to support transport schemes, business plans, and wider mobility planning across car, bus, rail, walking, and cycling. To meet this challenge, TfW worked with PTV Group and used PTV Visum as its modelling tool.

PTV Group implemented integrated PTV Visum models covering highway assignment, timetable-based public transport assignment, and demand modelling in line with WelTAG guidance. The solution gave TfW a consistent, country-wide evidence base for better decision-making, helped develop mobility schemes for metro areas, and supported analysis of Covid-19 travel changes and decarbonisation scenarios, including potential impacts on carbon emissions.
