How Barcelona ensures good quality mobility for decades to come

Autoritat del Transport Metropolità de Barcelona (ATM) is the metropolitan transport authority for Barcelona, responsible for helping millions of people move through one of Europe’s largest urban areas. To support long-term mobility planning in a dense city constrained by mountains and sea, ATM needed a way to carefully analyze the impact of proposed transport changes before implementing them, and it had already been using PTV Group software since 2009, including PTV Visum.

PTV Group’s PTV Visum was used to build and test scenarios for projects such as high-occupancy bus lanes, bicycle lanes, parking restrictions, new interchanges, and demand changes on key corridors. The solution also helped ATM create an accessibility index and analyze mobility across bus, metro, rail, trams, interchanges, and car parks, supporting Barcelona’s infrastructure and master plans for the next decade with a focus on efficient, sustainable, and equitable mobility.
