A PTC Case Study
ZF Wind Power, a global designer and supplier of multi‑MW wind turbine gearboxes, needed to reduce repetitive work, improve the accuracy and repeatability of complex calculations, minimize tedious programming, speed up 3D model creation, and automate data and workflow management. To tackle these challenges, ZF Wind Power adopted solutions from PTC, notably PTC Mathcad for engineering calculations, PTC Creo for 3D design, and PTC Windchill for product lifecycle and data management.
PTC implemented a combined solution where calculations are authored once in PTC Mathcad worksheets with unit‑aware math notation, models are created in PTC Creo, and workflows/data are managed in PTC Windchill. The impact was immediate and measurable: projects that previously took three weeks were completed in a single day (about 90% faster), complex models that took weeks are now built in hours, a small team now produces reusable standard formulas, and engineers spend far less time troubleshooting errors in Excel or Visual Basic.
