Weatherford International - Customer Case Study

Weatherford International, a global oilfield equipment and services provider operating in 100+ countries, faced the challenge of turning the “design anywhere, build anywhere” vision into reality by centralizing and controlling complex product data across a highly distributed organization and hundreds of acquired companies. To eliminate duplicate designs, manage long-lifecycle and configure-to-order parts, and tie engineering into manufacturing and supply-chain processes, Weatherford chose PTC, deploying PTC’s Windchill PLM alongside its Oracle ERP as the backbone for product data and change management.

PTC’s Windchill was implemented as the PLM front end with a PLM-driven Release To Production process, strict engineering change controls, and a robust classification and attribute strategy to standardize parts and speed retrieval. As a result (using PTC Windchill), Weatherford now has over 2,000 daily PLM users, nearly 1 million part masters and more than 1 million secondary part numbers, with roughly 6,000 new part numbers, 2,000 revisions and 1,000 engineering change requests added monthly; about 85% of business transactions run through the integrated ERP/PLM systems. The PTC solution reduced duplicate designs, improved cross-team collaboration, enabled companion parts kits and trade-compliance reporting, and materially improved Weatherford’s ability to deliver on time.
