Strengthening traditional design expertise by improvements in 3D CAD skill

Fujitsu Peripherals (Fujitsu) faced uneven 3D CAD usage across its design teams: after a decade using PTC’s 3D CAD tools, the company found through diagnostics that designers could model effectively but lacked tool mastery and standardized methods, which hurt efficiency during design, layout and modification work. To address this, Fujitsu partnered with PTC—including PTC University services—to assess skills and build a targeted training and standardization program.

PTC implemented on-site skill diagnostics, short intensive OJT classes, workshops and a resident PTC consultant (“sensei”), documented 3D design rules and tailored practice exercises, with plans for eLearning follow-up. As a result, Fujitsu reports major gains attributed to PTC’s program: a 20–30% reduction in time spent on modifications/layouts and a reported 40% rise in development efficiency overall, plus specific improvements such as a 46% cut in time spent on phone designs, 30% fewer design modification hours, 50–70% faster assembly-diagram creation, and the rollout of 68 standardized rules, 21 workshops and 77 Q&A items.
