SKF Group - Customer Case Study

SKF Group, the global leader in rolling bearings and seals, needed to design a revolutionary CARB® Toroidal Roller Bearing that could accommodate angular misalignment, axial displacement and higher loads — properties no previous bearing combined. To meet this challenge, SKF engineers used PTC’s Mathcad visual design environment to drive the engineering work and document all mathematical calculations and decisions.

PTC delivered PTC Mathcad integrated with SKF’s database and Web interface, enabling engineers to run design calculations, perform rapid what‑if analyses and generate complete, auditable documentation (saved as PDFs). The solution let SKF efficiently produce hundreds of CARB designs ranging from 50 mm to 2 m, complete calculations and optimizations in minutes, and provide manufacturing units worldwide with immediate access to validated data — speeding development, improving quality assurance and streamlining global production.
