Residential Care Facility contracted PTC Windchill FMEA Professional Services to address a pressing safety challenge: optimize resident safety by minimizing system and process failures, ensuring 24/7 operation and coverage of the campus emergency alert system (EAS), and improving the facility’s response to alerts from security and staff.

PTC used its Windchill FMEA tool and a 4D project approach (Discovery, Design, Development, Delivery) to analyze EAS hardware, processes, and human factors, creating an FMEA worksheet, calculating RPNs, and identifying six high‑risk failure modes (e.g., alert not received, incorrect location, no signal due to range/sensitivity). PTC supplied targeted corrective actions—adding redundancy and procedure steps, installing additional receivers, updating test procedures and coverage maps—which produced major system and process improvements and a clear plan to measurably increase EAS reliability and resident safety.
