Optical Solutions, a Minneapolis-based designer and manufacturer of FiberPath® optical access systems, needed a standardized way to communicate complex technical calculations across engineers, customer service, purchasing and global manufacturing partners. To solve this, the company adopted PTC’s applied mathematics software, PTC Mathcad, as the common tool for documenting and sharing computations in a format both technical and non-technical stakeholders can understand.

PTC Mathcad provided real-math notation and self-documenting worksheets that engineers can archive, convert to PDF/HTML, and reuse, enabling Optical Solutions to generate customized technical documentation in minutes and respond to deployment issues far faster. By using PTC Mathcad, Optical Solutions created an auditable record of design steps, improved cross-border collaboration with manufacturing in Mexico and vendors in China, and standardized technical communications for global trials such as those in Korea.
