Case Study: Metso achieves €41.6M in inventory savings and 18% higher turns with PTC's Service Parts Management (SPM) & Multi‑Echelon Optimization

A PTC Case Study

Preview of the Metso Case Study

How Metso implemented Service Parts Management (SPM) in the Cloud to unearth value from its global supply chain

Metso, a global industrial company serving mining and process industries, faced inefficient, location-based parts planning across 39 service centers that limited service levels and tied up capital. To overcome this, Metso adopted PTC’s Service Parts Management (SPM) solution with Multi Echelon Optimization (MEO) and later leveraged PTC Cloud Services to support a connected, organization-wide parts planning approach.

PTC implemented SPM integrated with Metso’s SAP, rolled out MEO in October 2015, and migrated the solution to the cloud in August 2016. The deployment delivered measurable results: Phase 1 saved more than EUR 30 million, MEO added an additional EUR 11.6 million in inventory cost reductions, inventory turns increased by 18%, and Metso achieved a more agile, customer-focused global supply chain while reducing burden on internal IT.
