A PTC Case Study
Heidelberg, the world’s largest maker of printing presses, faced a challenging market of declining print demand, excess capacity and intense price competition that made uptime and productivity critical for customers. To modernize its service model and connect its machines, Heidelberg worked with PTC to deploy IoT and smart, connected services across its press portfolio.
PTC-enabled solutions — including remote diagnosis, automated eCall notifications, Predictive Monitoring and the Performance Plus optimization program — connected thousands of sensors per press to enable remote troubleshooting, predictive maintenance and shop-level improvements. The impact was significant: about 70% of electronic problems and 90% of software issues are resolved remotely, eCall halved response time, Performance Plus projects saved 1,000–2,000 production hours per engagement, and avoiding a typical service call delivered roughly €1,625 in savings per incident, helping Heidelberg grow service revenues to about 40% of sales.
