GKN Aerospace, a leading UK aerospace design services organization, faced the challenge of producing clear, verifiable engineering calculations and designs that customers and regulators could inspect and modify. Stress engineers were relying on spreadsheets and paper calculation sheets that could not visually capture complex equations or the rationale behind analyses, making review, amendment and validation cumbersome. To address this, GKN Aerospace adopted PTC’s Mathcad solution.

PTC Mathcad provided a visual, document-style environment that lets engineers combine equations, diagrams and data sources in shareable digital files and hard-copy calculation sheets for regulator review. Using PTC Mathcad, GKN Aerospace made calculation sheets more comprehensible, enabled customers to transfer and modify analyses, reduced training overhead by leveraging widely taught software, and sped up re-check and validation cycles; worksheets became portable and reusable across the engineering team.
