A PTC Case Study
Aegis Systems, a UK spectrum engineering consultancy, was commissioned by the British National Space Centre to measure how the built environment affects wideband radio signals for satellite and positioning applications. Aegis needed fast, reliable calculation and visualization tools to simulate satellite paths and analyze large sets of collected radio channel data, so they selected PTC Mathcad from vendor PTC as their core calculation-management and simulation tool.
Using PTC Mathcad (alongside Fortran and C++), Aegis fed experimental data — gathered via helium‑balloon satellite simulations and field receivers — into Mathcad to produce two- and three‑dimensional channel-response charts and run rapid simulations. PTC Mathcad enabled results to be processed and presented to the BNSC within two days, preserved project knowledge in a reusable worksheet library, improved engineering productivity, and produced findings now used by UK space and commercial telecom, broadcast and navigation stakeholders.
