A PTC PLM Case Study
Weatherford International, a global oilfield equipment and services provider operating in 100+ countries, needed to turn its "design anywhere, build anywhere" ambition into reality while overcoming fragmented product data from more than 260 acquisitions, long part lifecycles, thousands of small suppliers, and the risk of duplicate re‑engineering. To centralize and control parts information and integrate PLM with ERP, Weatherford deployed PTC PLM (using PTC PLM's Windchill as the PLM front end) alongside its Oracle ERP.
PTC PLM implemented Windchill integrated with Oracle ERP plus a rigorous classification and attribute strategy and a PLM‑driven Release to Production and change‑management process. The outcome: more than 2,000 daily PLM users, nearly 1 million part masters and over 1 million secondary part numbers, monthly additions of ~6,000 new part numbers, ~2,000 revisions and ~1,000 engineering change requests, and roughly 85% of business transactions flowing through the integrated ERP/PLM—improving inventory and asset management, reducing duplicate designs, enabling faster on‑time delivery, and supporting better analytics and service kits.
