The Museum of Finnish Architecture wanted to extend its indoor exhibitions into the city where the actual buildings are located, enabling visitors to continue exploring architecture after their museum visit. To solve this challenge they integrated Proximi.io geofencing into the museum’s official app and installed beacons on site so the system could link miniature exhibits inside the museum to the real buildings outside.

Proximi.io’s solution combined app-based geofencing with on-premises beacons to deliver location-aware content and to recognize which buildings a visitor had already seen in miniature form. As a result, the Museum of Finnish Architecture can trigger contextual city-based tours and personalized prompts tied to a visitor’s prior indoor experience; the implementation explicitly provides the measurable capability to detect and record which exhibited buildings each visitor has viewed.
