San Jose City Government saves over $10 million with Proxim Wireless

The San Jose City Government required a wide area network for its new traffic management system to connect hundreds of signals and cameras across the metropolis. A key challenge was deploying wireless infrastructure that could reliably communicate despite severe non-line-of-sight conditions caused by dense, tall foliage throughout the city. They partnered with Proxim Wireless to find a solution.

Proxim implemented its Tsunami® Point-to-Multipoint radios, which utilized WORP® and nLoS functionality to successfully relay real-time information through obstructions. The solution connected over 130 traffic signal controllers and other infrastructure. By choosing Proxim's wireless solution, the City saved over $10 million by eliminating the need for extensive trenching and cabling and reduced installation time by almost 70% compared to a wired implementation.
