KPN HotSpots Deploys Proxim’s New Compact, Robust, and High-Performance Tsunami® 820 Series Products

KPN HotSpots, the hotspot arm of KPN—the Netherlands’ largest telecom provider—faced the challenge of improving backbone infrastructure and delivering robust outdoor Wi‑Fi across hotels, restaurants, gas stations, railways and holiday parks. KPN HotSpots had long used Proxim Wireless ORiNOCO access points and evaluated new options, ultimately selecting Proxim Wireless’ Tsunami 820 series to meet higher capacity, security and outdoor‑grade requirements.

Proxim Wireless deployed its Tsunami 820 point‑to‑multipoint subscriber units—compact, IP67‑rated devices with OFDM and MIMO that integrate with Proxim base stations—allowing rapid configuration and rollout. The Proxim Wireless solution provided secure, high‑capacity transmission, expanded KPN HotSpots’ network footprint, and delivered substantial cost savings and an improved Wi‑Fi experience for customers.
