A Proxim Wireless Case Study
IGMA/Cargill is a bulk port terminal in Amsterdam that handles dry products such as grains, coal and ores and transships 8–9 million tons annually. Their challenge was to maintain seamless, real‑time network connectivity from quay to the terminal operating center across mobile assets (floating cranes and weighing towers) that move around the harbor and can block Wi‑Fi as vessels rise. Proxim Wireless (via partners Dimension Data, Skyline Networks and Multicap) was chosen to provide a wireless outdoor broadband solution using Proxim Tsunami® 8200 PtMP base stations and Tsunami® subscriber units.
Skyline Networks deployed two Tsunami® 8200 sector base stations and an omni base on the central weighing tower (~50 m high) to cover the docks at about 600–800 m, with subscriber units mounted on cranes and towers; the radios use Proxim ClearConnect® (WORP®, DDRS) and IP67 enclosures for robust performance. The Proxim Wireless solution delivered reliable high‑speed links despite distance, moving platforms and changing weather, enabling uninterrupted real‑time weighing and logistics monitoring, faster throughput and measurable time savings for IGMA/Cargill, which now plans to extend the wireless network along the quay.
