Why Does the Google Maps Team Use ProtoPie for Testing

The Google Maps UX team, led by designer Scott Greenwald, sought a way to rapidly test and iterate on new designs for its global application. Their challenge was to create highly realistic prototypes that could be tested on a wide range of devices, including lower-end Android phones common in their target markets, in order to gather crucial user feedback before launching new features.

Using ProtoPie, the team implemented a solution that allowed for rapid prototyping with advanced interactive features. The tool enabled users to input custom text, like search queries, and allowed designers to utilize device sensors for more authentic testing. As a result, the ProtoPie solution became ingrained in their workflow, drastically speeding up their iterative cycle and allowing them to test two or three different prototypes in a single week.
