A Protolabs Case Study
The Metropolitan Museum of Art needed to create a highly detailed, scaled physical model of an ancient Egyptian pyramid complex for an exhibition. Their challenge was to accurately translate archaeological data into a tangible model with complex, exacting geometries. To achieve this, they partnered with Protolabs for its industrial 3D printing services, specifically stereolithography (SL).
Protolabs provided multiple rapid prototype iterations using an ABS-like thermoplastic. This solution enabled the museum to quickly receive highly detailed parts that would have been extremely difficult to produce by hand. The result was a remarkable physical model that successfully brought the ancient site to life for visitors, aiding in the visualization and interpretation of the historical evidence. Protolabs' speed and precision were critical to the project's success.
