S'up Spoon - Customer Case Study

S'up Spoon, developed by Glasgow-based 4C Design, set out to help people with shaky hands eat more easily. The challenge was to turn Grant Douglas’s idea for a spoon that reduced spillage into a manufacturable product, and the team partnered with Protolabs, using its rapid moulding and prototyping services to refine the design.

Protolabs helped the team select suitable materials, test prototypes, and optimize the spoon for injection moulding, enabling a fast transition from prototype to low-volume production. The result was a successful initial production run of 100 polypropylene spoons, followed by an immediate reorder of 900 more within a couple of weeks, helping S'up Spoon reach market much faster and at lower cost than traditional tooling methods.
