Rotork Works on New Leak Detection Technology with Protolabs

Rotork Gears, part of Rotork plc, needed to rapidly develop a new solution to reduce valve leaks in the petro-chemicals industry, where preventing emissions is a major priority. To test the concept quickly, the customer used Protolabs’ CNC machining service for an aluminium valve leak emission housing prototype.

Protolabs manufactured the housing prototypes in just four days from receipt of order, helping Rotork validate the design without tooling investment. The prototype was right first time after Protolabs’ design analysis, and the project has led to a patented leak-detection solution with built-in sensors and wireless monitoring that is expected to reduce maintenance, cut downtime, and attract strong customer interest.
