Rheon Medical scales eyeWatch ancillaries with Protolabs in 1 to 15 days

Rheon Medical, a company specializing in glaucoma drainage devices, faced the challenge of industrializing the mass production of two new microsurgery tools used for the placement of its revolutionary eyeWatch implant. They needed to produce a specialized clamp and marker that were ultra-miniaturized for microsurgery. Rheon Medical entrusted Protolabs with this task, utilizing their injection moulding service to move from initial 3D printed prototypes to serial production.

Protolabs provided a solution using their rapid injection moulding service with modifiable aluminium moulds, which allowed for design flexibility and quick iterations based on surgeon feedback. They also managed the procurement and traceability of a specific, sterilisable raw material. The outcome for Rheon Medical was the successful mass production of the refined ancillaries, which accompany the new medical procedure and have contributed to the placement of over 600 implants. Protolabs' design analysis and fast lead times were crucial in validating the design choices and accelerating the development process.
