Protolabs supports the development of critical safety equipment

Canute Rail, a Norwegian rail maintenance and inspection business led by Knut Holen, needed to develop a highly accurate part for critical weld inspection and rail alignment work. Because rail track inspection is safety-critical and even tiny misalignments can create serious risk, the company needed a precision component that met Norwegian Rail’s strict criteria. Canute Rail turned to Protolabs for CNC machining support.

Protolabs used its digital quoting and design-analysis platform to review the CAD, confirm manufacturability, and produce the aluminium part quickly and cost-effectively. The single high-precision component was manufactured to micron-level accuracy, shipped at minimal cost, and enabled Holen to manage the process entirely from his office. The result was a fast, reliable solution with no minimum order quantity, giving Canute Rail the control and precision needed for its safety-critical inspection kit.
