PolarCool, a Swedish medical technology company, needed to develop the PolarCap® System, a device that could quickly lower brain temperature in a controlled and controlled manner after sporting head trauma. Working with Protolabs and product design studio OIM, PolarCool sought prototype-to-production support to turn a complex headcap and portable cooling unit concept into a manufacturable product for use directly at sports facilities.

Protolabs supported the PolarCap System through rapid injection moulding, engineering guidance, mould flow analysis, and manufacturability feedback, helping optimize the design, materials, and casing construction. The result was a faster development cycle and a product that achieved clinical success, including over 80% fewer players taking long absences after treatment, while also gaining adoption by Leeds United and interest from other major sports clubs and leagues.
