A Protolabs Case Study
Soccerment, a startup focused on football performance analytics, needed to develop smart shin pads that could be worn by every player and still meet strict PPE and CE certification requirements. It turned to Protolabs for rapid injection moulding prototypes to create a lightweight plastic frame that could house sensors, GPS, Bluetooth, and a battery while staying under 100g.
Protolabs helped Soccerment test materials, produce the first prototypes, and manufacture the initial 80 pairs of XSEED smart shin guards for validation. By using just two moulds and supporting iterative changes without remoulding, Protolabs reduced development cost and accelerated certification and testing, helping Soccerment bring its smart wearables to market for amateur and professional teams.
