A Protolabs Case Study
Nanoident Technologies AG, an Austrian leader in printed semiconductor-based sensors, needed a custom plastic housing for a new connector to reliably test its innovative devices on glass slides. The challenge was to design and rapidly manufacture a precision, static-dissipative housing that would protect the glass and ensure perfect contact alignment, a task for which their electrical engineer had limited experience. They turned to Protolabs and its rapid injection moulding service to solve this problem.
Protolabs provided a manufacturability analysis through its ProtoQuote system, guiding the designer on necessary changes like adding draft angles. The vendor then quickly produced and delivered 100 sample housings that fit together perfectly and met all material and tolerance requirements. This solution allowed Nanoident to accelerate its testing process and steal a march on the competition, leading to a successful outcome that will result in a follow-up production order for Protolabs.
