Moon Labs - Customer Case Study

Moon Labs, a medtech startup from Norway, developed a potentially life-saving patient monitoring system called the Evo System but faced the challenge of moving from 3D printed prototypes to a design suitable for cost-effective, large-scale manufacturing for pilot testing and clinical trials. The high costs and strict regulations of the medical device industry were prohibitive for the small company. They turned to Protolabs and utilized its Design for Manufacturability (DFM) analysis service to help overcome this challenge.

With the aid of a Protolabs application engineer and the DFM software, Moon Labs iterated on their design to create an injection moulded solution using medical-grade plastics. This work was funded through Protolabs' European Cool Idea Award. The result was a manufacturable design that allowed Moon Labs to produce 500 sensors and 100 gateways for hospital trials, bringing their affordable, life-saving system closer to reality and significantly lowering future unit costs for mass production.
