LUMA-iD - Customer Case Study

LUMA-iD, a product design specialist working with Sega on a promotional project for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III, needed to turn the game’s iconic Power Fist into a real-world prop. The challenge was to manufacture the gauntlet’s strong, functional fingers and thumb with the technical precision and durability needed for a dramatic demo piece, using Protolabs’ CNC machining and 3D printing capabilities.

Protolabs CNC machined the Power Fist’s fingers and thumb in aluminium 6082-T651, with broken edges and a light beat blast, then delivered the parts in less than two weeks. The completed project was assembled, painted, and finished in a little over a month and on budget, resulting in a “right first time” build that was successfully filmed smashing through materials and later showcased at London Design Week.
