KTM - Customer Case Study

The customer, KTM Sportmotorcycle AG, is a high-performance motorcycle manufacturer that faces intense competition from much larger companies. To maintain its leading reputation, KTM must ensure every part it develops is 100% reliable and durable under extreme racing conditions. The challenge was to rapidly prototype these critical parts with production-level materials to avoid costly design flaws and delays, leading them to work with Protolabs and its rapid injection moulding service.

Protolabs provided a solution through its quick-turn injection moulding, which delivered production-quality prototype parts in days. This allowed KTM to perform rigorous real-world testing, quickly identify design flaws, and iterate on designs efficiently. As a result, KTM saved significant time and money, avoided sub-standard parts, and successfully launched new products, such as a new mirror that was designed, prototyped, and TÜV-certified in just three months for a major trade show.
