ITL Group - Customer Case Study

ITL Group, a Kent-based medical technology specialist, was tasked with redesigning ToxiTrace, a highly complex cartridge used in the ToxiMet food safety testing system. The challenge was to meet strict global regulatory requirements, fit the part into the wider system, and do so on a tight launch schedule while allowing time to test multiple design iterations. Protolabs provided 3D printing and manufacturing support to help ITL move quickly from development to production.

Protolabs recommended stereolithography 3D printing for an initial short run, which was well suited for “show and tell” parts and concept validation, then moved the project to soft-tooled injection moulding for larger production runs of 1,000 and 6,500 units. Protolabs delivered the first 500 cartridges in just 15 days, helping ITL meet its launch goals and support the successful rollout of the ToxiMet system. The project’s success contributed to growing demand, and ITL was later commissioned to manufacture another batch of the ToxiQuant instrument.
