Inspired Cycle Engineering (ICE) - Customer Case Study

Inspired Cycle Engineering (ICE), the UK’s leading manufacturer of recumbent tricycles, needed a way to create a wrist rest that could comfortably support riders’ arms and hands on long journeys. The challenge was to make it strong, lightweight, and precise enough to fit exactly onto the trike’s handlebar setup, while also being suitable for people with limited strength or grip. ICE turned to Protolabs for injection moulding support.

Protolabs helped ICE validate the design through its ProtoQuote software, then provided technical guidance on material selection, shrinkage, and manufacturability to ensure the part met tight tolerances. The result was a 70g wrist rest that was comfortable, easy to fit, and quickly taken up by customers; demand was strong enough that ICE ordered a second production batch just two weeks after launch.
