Attention to Detail Brings a Specialized Toolkit to Life

Aptus DesignWorks, a team of engineers developing products for other companies, faced the challenge of creating a specialized toolkit to help technicians safely install traffic cameras high above intersections. The toolkit needed to transform from a handheld briefcase into a secure, flat work surface to prevent delicate fiber optic tools from being dropped, thereby speeding up installation and minimizing traffic disruption. They partnered with Protolabs to manufacture the solution.

Protolabs utilized its manufacturing network to produce the toolkit's components through sheet metal fabrication and CNC machining. This approach successfully met stringent requirements for safety, tight tolerances, and aesthetics, including a hard-anodized finish. The result was a high-quality product that exceeded client expectations. Aptus received its parts quickly, anticipates a 10-15% cost savings, and the toolkit is now successfully reducing installation times for municipalities.
