Alstom - Customer Case Study

Alstom, the rail and transport company, entered the IMechE Railway Challenge with a miniature locomotive and needed a cost-effective way to manufacture two recessed brackets for an emergency stop button. To keep the project within budget and meet a tight design requirement, Alstom turned to Protolabs for 3D printing support.

Protolabs reviewed the CAD files, provided automated design feedback, and 3D printed the brackets, with some parts sponsored as part of the project. The parts arrived in about three weeks, were right first time, and helped Alstom’s first-time team place first in the business case challenge, fourth in design, and eighth overall out of 12 teams.
