3D Printing Creates Big Innovation from Tiny Parts for Medtech Firm

UVision360, a medtech startup developing the LUMINELLE hysteroscopy system, needed a cost‑effective way to rapidly prototype extremely small, micro‑sized plastic components before moving to hardened stainless‑steel micro‑molding. To solve this challenge they turned to Protolabs and its stereolithography (SLA) additive manufacturing service using the exclusive MicroFine Green™ resin for micro‑resolution parts.

Protolabs supplied micro‑resolution SLA prototypes (built in ~0.001 in layers with features down to ~0.0025 in), enabling next‑day parts, fast design iterations, and validation that 3D‑printed tolerances would match production tooling. Using Protolabs’ MicroFine process, UVision360 launched the LUMINELLE line in under two years and avoided roughly $250,000 in tooling revisions by finalizing 20–30 parts before ordering hardened tools.
