1st Call Lockouts Limited, a locksmith company, aimed to enter the automotive locksmith market with a new product called TouchClone. Their challenge was designing a high-quality, attractive enclosure for the device that could be prototyped in real engineering materials to satisfy investors. They engaged product design agency Nebulem, who utilized Protolabs' on-demand CNC machining service to create accurate nylon prototypes for design validation.

Protolabs' CNC machined prototypes allowed 1st Call to thoroughly scrutinize and refine the product design with Nebulem's guidance. This process, supported by Protolabs' design review system, ensured the final design was manufacturable. The project moved rapidly from a July 2011 prototype to a public launch in April 2012. Protolabs' rapid injection moulding service was identified as the perfect manufacturing solution for the expected production volumes.
