Using Makerbot to Meet Impossible Deadlines and Cut Costs

BioLite, a Brooklyn-based startup focused on sustainable off-grid energy products, needed to meet an important trade show deadline with final product models and packaging ready months in advance. To create blister packs for its BaseLantern and other products within just one week, the team turned to Proto3000’s MakerBot 3D printing solution instead of relying on slower outsourced production.

Using Proto3000’s MakerBot 3D printers, BioLite was able to prototype and produce blister packs in-house much faster than the usual 10-day outsourced process. The approach saved the company about $7,000 versus outsourcing, cut marketing production costs, and gave the design team more freedom to iterate on packaging ideas while still meeting a deadline that would otherwise have been nearly impossible.
