A Proto3000 Case Study
Utah Trikes, a Payson, Utah maker of custom trikes, quads and wheelchairs, struggled with the time and cost of small, highly customized production runs and slow, labor-intensive prototyping. To overcome machining limits and the need for testable prototypes, Utah Trikes turned to Proto3000 and production 3D printing using Nylon 12CF to enable stronger, production-capable printed parts.
Proto3000’s solution—on-site production 3D printers and FDM Nylon 12CF material—let Utah Trikes rapidly iterate designs, produce jigs/fixtures and print final short-run parts with improved stiffness and finish. The vendor’s technology enabled 120 of 450 parts on one wheelchair to be printed, cut production time from two months to two weeks, and reduced costs by 8–10x, while delivering repeatable, durable parts for both prototyping and end-use assemblies.
