King’s College Hospital - Customer Case Study

King’s College Hospital, a leading London teaching hospital and regional center for maxillofacial and craniofacial care, faced the challenge of planning and executing highly complex facial, jaw and skull surgeries while reducing operating times and costs. To address this, the hospital partnered with Proto3000, using PolyJet 3D printing technology to create accurate, patient-specific surgical planning models from CT scans.

Proto3000’s solution produces physical 3D models that let surgeons rehearse procedures, size implants and identify problem areas before entering the operating room. As a result, King’s College Hospital now uses 3D printed models for 100% of its maxillofacial and neurosurgery cases, cuts surgery time by about one-third (procedures that once took 10–12 hours now take 6–7 hours), and achieves better aesthetic outcomes, improved patient confidence and potential cost savings.
