A Proto3000 Case Study
Diversified Plastics, Inc., a custom injection molder serving medical and other industries, faced long lead times and high costs when producing prototype molds from aluminum or P20 steel. To speed time to market and reduce expense, they adopted Proto3000’s 3D printing solution, implementing an Objet260 Connex 3D printer for in‑house prototype tooling.
Using Proto3000’s 3D printing, Diversified Plastics printed mold components and produced injection‑molded prototypes in days rather than weeks, allowing customers (such as Coloplast) to test form, texture and function early. The change cut prototype mold lead time from about five weeks to five days (≈80% faster) and reduced costs from roughly $13,000 to $1,500 (≈88% savings), enabling faster, lower‑cost product validation.
