Cutting Time and Costs in Half by 3D printing Architectural Models

KMCA, a lead builder of architectural models, needed to create large-scale models for CityCenterDC and another major office project while meeting demanding timelines and budgets. Proto3000 provided 3D printing services to replace traditional stick construction for the scale models.

Using Proto3000’s 3D printing approach, KMCA produced the models mostly as single-piece ABS prints on a Fortus 3D printer, with a few smaller components printed separately for added detail. The result was a model delivered one month earlier, with production time cut from 8 weeks to 4 weeks and cost reduced from about $20,000 to $8,000, saving 50% of the time and 80% of the cost.
