Energy Company had grown rapidly and worried it had outgrown existing processes, systems and controls; its project management team also could not accurately report construction progress. To address this, the company engaged Protiviti’s Capital Projects and Construction professionals for an operational and controls review.
Protiviti mapped end-to-end capital project processes, produced current/future-state process maps, risk and control matrices, and a gap analysis using frameworks such as a pipeline process classification scheme, a capability maturity model and the six elements of infrastructure. Protiviti’s recommendations were implemented, enabling the client to convert an asset sale initially valued at over $250 million into a deal worth more than $600 million (an increase described as more than 200 percent) with a joint-venture partner; Protiviti was subsequently retained to build processes and controls for the new company.
