Insurer launches a combined assurance initiative with Protiviti’s Governance Portal

Leading Multinational Insurance Group, a UK‑headquartered insurer serving more than 17 million customers in nearly 140 countries, faced a 2009 GRC technology turning point: Financial Control and Internal Audit systems were nearing end‑of‑life and the Risk Group had no platform to meet ICA and Solvency II requirements. Rather than deploy three separate systems, the company selected Protiviti’s Governance Portal to run a combined assurance initiative and provide a single risk story to the board.

Protiviti performed an inventory of seven project teams, defined 40 functional areas, and configured the Governance Portal in 12 months to support Finance, Risk and Audit workflows with a single integrated database, common taxonomy and offline functionality. Protiviti’s solution eliminated duplicate efforts, cut control‑assertion preparation from ~30 minutes to 5 minutes (saving more than 300 man‑hours every reporting period), replaced 35+ policy spreadsheets with automated self‑assessments and single reports, and reduced operational costs by consolidating three GRC systems into one.
