Agilent Technologies, a US$4 billion leader in life sciences, diagnostics and applied chemical markets with about 11,000 employees, faced a cumbersome Sarbanes‑Oxley (SOX) compliance process: nearly 320 control approvals were performed manually, dozens of spreadsheets were emailed among 30 executives and 100 stakeholders, testing required printing/signing/scanning, and the team had no reliable reporting or remediation workflow. To address this, Agilent selected Protiviti and its Governance Portal to streamline and automate SOX activities.

Protiviti consultants configured, deployed and trained Agilent’s SOX and internal audit teams on the Governance Portal, centralizing documentation, automating notifications and using the portal’s Assessment Engine and dashboards to assign tests, track completion and enable remote auditor access. The solution let the teams validate results, reduce errors and avoid extra IT costs beyond licenses; in 2014 the combined teams tracked 700 tests through the portal, and external auditors no longer needed on‑site access—dramatically increasing efficiency and cutting travel/audit fees.
