Case Study: UNSW improves cyber risk visibility and reporting with Protecht ERM

A Protecht Case Study

Preview of the UNSW Case Study

How UNSW transformed cyber risk visibility and reporting.

UNSW, one of Australia’s leading universities, needed a better way to manage growing cyber risk complexity across a highly decentralised IT environment. Its cyber team was struggling with manual processes, scattered spreadsheets, static registers, and rigid approval gates that made risk assessments, assurance tracking, and reporting slow and cumbersome. UNSW turned to Protecht and its Protecht ERM platform to create a more scalable, user-friendly approach to cyber risk and compliance management.

With Protecht ERM, UNSW implemented end-to-end ISO 27001-aligned ISMS management, real-time dashboards, automated audit-ready reporting, asset-level compliance attestation, and flexible workflows that could be used by staff across the university. Protecht helped UNSW reduce manual effort, improve audit readiness, and increase user engagement, with bulk updates saving days of work on tasks like AWS compliance tracking. The result was a more proactive, data-driven cyber risk program, and UNSW is now exploring AI-driven workflow enhancements with Protecht to further streamline risk management.
