University of Sydney Library earns bigger return on its content investment with new technology

The University of Sydney Library faced the challenge of helping students and researchers navigate thousands of resources spread across a large collection. With budget pressures ahead, the library wanted a better way to raise awareness of its holdings and show greater value from the content it had already invested in, so it worked with ProQuest on the Summon web-scale discovery service.

ProQuest’s Summon service was designed to give users a single search box that surfaces books, ebooks, videos, newspaper articles, and other materials in one results list. The university signed on as a beta partner and planned a campus-wide rollout, with the service drawing on content from more than 4,800 publishers and nearly half a billion indexed records to make the library easier to search and use.
