Robust API Makes Journal Articles Discoverable

Heidelberg University Library in Heidelberg, Germany needed a way to discover subscription journal articles more easily and integrate journal article records into its OPAC while still meeting local requirements. The library worked with ProQuest on the Summon service, using its API-only approach to support a customized discovery setup for journal articles.

ProQuest’s well-documented Summon API was integrated into the library’s HEIDI catalogue to display article availability and access information and to support faster searching of journal article subscriptions. The library said the API made customization and integration easy, and it added search functions such as paging and “did you mean” suggestions for 47,700 active users.
