Library Wins Patrons Back with a Unified Search Experience

Leuphana University Library in Lüneburg, Germany, serves 7,300 students and 600 academic staff, but patrons were not using the library’s resources as expected. The library needed a search experience that felt closer to web search engines and could replace traditional catalogue searching with a single, simpler entry point. It turned to ProQuest for The Summon Service to address those discovery challenges.

ProQuest implemented The Summon Service as a SaaS discovery solution that could be customized to the library’s needs, including special databases for licensed e-journal packages. Leuphana University Library said the tool gave users a familiar, Google-like search experience and helped staff trust discovery in the same way they had trusted the catalogue, while also saving time during setup and creating a foundation for further improvements to discovery-related services.
