A ProQuest Case Study
Bukkyo University, an academic institution in Kyoto, Japan, needed a way to make the library’s collections and services accessible from one place. The university also wanted to help students discover underused resources, including its Japanese-language print journal collection, without requiring assistance from library staff. ProQuest provided the Summon web-scale discovery service and 360 Link.
With ProQuest’s Summon service and 360 Link, Bukkyo University created a single search interface on its library portal for discovery across the catalogue, online and print journals, e-books, and more. The university reported increased usage of both its OPAC and the Summon service, with total Summon searches rising from 7,462 in 2010 to 73,414 in 2011, while OPAC searches increased from 221,634 to 416,837.
