Better Value for Electronic Resource Investment

University of Wolverhampton needed a way to help its 21,000 students and staff discover more of the library’s electronic resources across four campuses. Users were unaware of the full range of databases, and the library faced a disjointed search experience across hundreds of interfaces. The university worked with ProQuest and its Summon service to address the problem.

ProQuest implemented Summon alongside the library catalogue, then made it the starting point for resource discovery, with 360 Link and MARC Updates also supporting the setup. The Learning Centres created a customized search page with keyword, author, and title boxes, and staff no longer had to spend hours cataloguing electronic resources. The university reported two million Summon searches in just under a year and better value from its electronic resource investment.
